Wedding Dress Alterations

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Q: How much should I expect to pay for wedding dress alterations?
  • A: Working around embellishments such as appliques, beadwork, lace and multiple layers of tulle will add time and cost. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon for alterations to cost more than the price of the gown. In order to properly size a dress to fit your body it usually has to be deconstructed and rebuilt.

  • Q: What size gown should I consider when ordering a dress online?
  • A: If you're between sizes, order a size up. It's important to never order a dress more than two sizes larger or smaller, though.

  • Q: How soon should I meet with my seamstress for alterations.
  • A: At least 10-12 weeks before the wedding allows for 2-3 fitting appointments.

  • Q: How should I care for my dress when it's finished?
  • A: If you feel like your dress needs to be professionally pressed/steamed before the wedding, please allow an extra week to have this done. Also, be aware that a wedding dress is not meant for everyday wear and should be tried on as little as possible to avoid damage.

  • Q: Is there any type of dress you won't alter?
  • A: Judy's Custom Tailoring does not work with heavily beaded gowns as well as extremely large , bulky gowns, we do not have the table space and are not professionally trained in beadwork.

Thread Bare- It's all in the Details

The Women Behind the Name:

I am SO PROUD to Call Hamilton Montana my home!

I like knowing I am giving back to a community  that SO deserves it and contributing to society with the lost art of sewing.

I learned at a young age from my grandmother (A Kansas farm girl ),  who did it as a means to support her family and clothe her brood of eight children.

My 45+ years of accomplished seamstress experience, Not to mention my ongoing education in the craft,  has taught me the beauty of custom creations, the satisfaction of a job well done and I hope to inspire others to embrace this valuable craft as a means of preserving it for generations to come.

FAQs:

FAQs:

  • How long is the turn around time?  Depending on the complexity and design of an order and the current orders already in production an order turn around time should be  about  3-4 weeks, but every effort will be made to return orders as soon as possible.
  • Is there a way to rush an order? Absolutely, but a 25%-50% fee may be applied to the order, depending on work load and how soon your project needs to be completed. Typically turn around time is two weeks.
  • Would you sew a custom item for my pet? It is my pleasure to help with any sewing task big or small. We are pet lovers here at Judy's Custom Tailoring & Alterations. (So, That's a YES!)  LOL
  • How does the process work? There is a  free consultation,   I will explain the "How to" of what your item needs and do my best to give you an accurate estimate of cost. We do this by breaking down cost of fabric, pattern and supplies plus time to construct item.
